What is an Assisted Living Home?

Assisted Living Homes (ALH) are privately owned homes that are licensed by the state where adults who need assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) live together and share caregivers as well as common spaces. Residents can have a private or semi-private room and the number of other residents in the home depends on the license but can range from 2-10. Caregiving may be provided by the owners of the home or hired by the owners. Caregivers will always be present but may either be awake at night or asleep when the residents sleep, depending on the license and dynamics of the home. Meals are prepared by the caregivers and usually shared in a common dining room. The level of functioning of the residents varies from home to home and can range from minimal assistance to total care.

What Sets Maui Care Home Apart?

Maui Care Home was started in 2006 by owner Livia and is now assisted by her daughter Ligia. Livia has been working as a caregiver and assisted living home owner most of her professional career and is dedicated to the comfort and well-being of her residents. Ligia has also worked in this care setting her entire career and is a registered nurse. All caregivers in their home are required to be certified as well as have experience, compassion, and the ability to identify their residents’ needs. Maui prides itself on personalized care from meeting dietary needs to celebrating birthdays.

What Level of Care is Available?

Maui is able to accept up to nine residents into their home and is typically always full. They are able to care for patients who require very little assistance all the way up to those who need assistance with all ADL’s. Services include hygiene assistance, grooming, mobility assistance, meals, diet monitoring, housekeeping, transportation, medication management, appointments management, and social and physical activities. Most of their residents stay on a long-term basis and they have even had one resident with them for over 9 years. However, they are able to accommodate short-term stays for those needing to transition from a rehabilitation center to home.

What Can I Expect at Maui?

Maui care home understands that not every assisted living home is right for everyone and it is important to understand the “vibe” of a home before making a decision. When coming in for a tour, potential residents and their families will have the opportunity to meet the caregivers as well as the other residents.

What Will It Cost?

Rates will vary depending on the care needs of the resident. A rate will be negotiated at the beginning and typically remain the same unless the care needs drastically increase. Maui is private pay only and does not accept ALTCS.
